GAMES

Here at the Cairo-Purling Roller Rink there are many games to play. We have games and prizes for all skating levels and all ages.

The most popular game is the Elimination or Pole Game. In this game everyone skates around till the music stops. When the music stops everyone picks a pole to go to, we have six. Pole number one is green, number two is yellow, number three is red, number four is purple, number five is orange and number six is blue. The dice are rolled and if your number/color pole matches the roll, everyone on that pole is out. Everyone else skates again with the music. This procedure is repeated until there is only one boy and one girl left in the game. They are the Winners! A cartoon duck dancing.

The Chicken/Duck Dance is very big with the little ones, as each person "quacks" their beak, flaps their wings and wiggles their tailfeathers. Best "feathers" wins a prize!

Another popular game is the Limbo. Yes on skates! You can bend anyway you want as you roll under the bar as long as the only thing to touch the floor are your wheels. A red, a yellow and a green balloon.

Two teams face off in the Baloon Relay a game that is played by everyone with or without skates. Teams are evenly assigned advanced and beginner skaters and non-skaters, it is the job of those who can to help those who can't any way they can but carrying them. Each player has a balloon but the active contestant can't touch their's, they have to hold it by the knot in their teeth. One at a time, unless with helpers, they "race" to the other end to sit on their balloon and pop it, then rush back to tag the next player. The first team to pop all their balloons wins!

Fun to watch is the baloon pairs contest. Two players matched in height hold a baloon between their heads, no hands allowed. All the pairs skate around, last pair to still have their baloon win!

In the Izzy Dizzy Relay Race each team is assigned three poles in a row. The players must race down the row and back making a full circle around each pole every time they pass it! roller racing!

California Coast is a distance race, each player for him or herself. Players are set off in groups of three or four. Starting on the far turn by pole three the racer gets till pole four to build up speed, from there they must coast! If you are passed, you are out. Farthest coaster wins!

In the broom skate, couples skate around the rink while one extra fellow skates in the center with Brenda Broom. When the whistle sounds all the fellows must advance to the next gal. The fellow in the middle leaves the broom and trys to steal one of the 'live' partners during the switch. Whoever ends up without a partner has to go skate with Brenda Broom in the center and wait for the next whistle to try for another partner.

There are many more games, both fast and slow; and dances like the Hokey Pokey, Electric Slide, Mexican Hat, Alley Cat, Cotton-eyed Joe and the Macarena.

and more..........
